Steven Culling was born and raised in the Fort St John area. He has been involved with horses his entire life and started taking roping seriously in his early teen years. Team roping led him into the high school rodeo association where he began roping calves and steer wrestling. Soon after that steer wrestling became his main priority. In 2010, his grade 11 year, he qualified for the National High School Rodeo (USA) and the Canadian High School Rodeo steer wrestling championships. To finish off his high school career he returned to the NHSFR in his graded 12 year and placed 3rd overall. Stephen went to college on a rodeo scholarship at Northwestern Oklahoma State university where he represented his school three times at the national college rodeo in Casper Wyoming. In his sophomore and junior year at the CNFR he finished 7th and 3rd respectively. During the summers in high school and college he started getting his feet wet in the ranks of professional rodeo. In 2016 his first full time season of pro rodeo, he won the steer wrestling events at the Dawson Creek Rodeo and the Ponoka Stampede which led to his first Canadian Finals Rodeo appearance. His success in Canada and the U.S.A led him to the prestigious title of Resistol rookie of the year in the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). 2017 found him just coming shy of another CFR berth. Stephen and his team of horse are prepared for success in 2018. You can keep up with the whereabouts and progress of his 2018 rodeo campaign all over the US and Canada right here at 8 Seconds.
